Having been acquainted since high school, Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih formed the band "Twenty One Pilots" in 2009. The group released their debut album, Twenty One Pilots the same year. Both Salih and Thomas left the band on good terms. Not long after, new found drummer Josh Dun joined the band. At the time, Dun was working at guitar center with Salih. Salih brought in a CD with three Twenty One PIlots songs. Dun stated that he loved the songs and went to see Twenty One Pilots live, soon attending a show at the Newport Music Hall. Dun approached Joseph after the show, and they have since become great friends and musicians together.
