Background

This song is (from what I’ve heard) about how the other original remaining member of the band (Nick Thomas) had left, and it was only Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. Both Tyler and Josh had doubts about being able to put on a show with only two people, and were really disheartened and unsure of the band’s future now that they were only two. “I’m two” is Joseph talking about how the band is only two; “Be gone, you see rain,” is speaking to how Nick left the band because he wasn’t sure that it would sustain him in the future, which is a valid concern. 'Two' is essentially about how Twenty One Pilots as a band was in a very uncertain state during this time. [1]

Sung from the point of view of the band itself, it became just two people, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun when Nick Thomas and Chris Salih left in 2011.

Additionally, this can be seen as a double entendre if you include the multiple implications throughout the album that Tyler has two halves, one good and one bad. We can see this more clearly explained later upon the release of Blurryface which divulges the concept in a unique way.
